In my previous post, I shared my English learning method part 1. I have another English learning method to share with you, so I've planned a part 2.
I think everyone has their favorite areas. I like sports, so I'm exposed to sports-related things in English. Since it's something I enjoy, I feel relatively less resistance or struggle with English.
Among sports, I especially like soccer, so I study English by watching interviews with overseas soccer players. I can learn a lot about English expressions, including pronunciation, gestures, emotional expression, sentences, and vocabulary. For example, after a soccer game, Son Heung-min is interviewed. When I watch it, he seems easygoing yet cool and appears to be a good English speaker.
People at my previous company often asked me, 'Did you study English in the UK?', 'Is it because you're a big football fan that your English pronunciation is like that of England?', 'When I hear you speak English, you sound just like Son Heung-min.' When I listen to myself, I also think my English sounds similar to Son Heung-min's.
Some people might disagree that Son Heung-min is a fluent English speaker. He might make mistakes in pronunciation, sentence structure, grammar, and so on. However, native speakers also make grammatical errors, and even Koreans don't speak Korean perfectly. The important thing is not to be able to speak perfectly, but to be able to express what you want to say and continue a conversation with others. Find English content related to your favorite topics and read/watch them frequently. J
I have posted a post which was about how to learn English for my case. I have another method to study English so I want to share it again as a second series.
I think you have the subjects you like. For me, I like sports so I usually read or watch sports contents in English. Because this is my interest, I am not boring or suffered from English contents.
Among the sports, especially I like football so I am learning English as watching football players’ interview. Pronunciation, gesture, emotion, sentences, words and so many English expressions I can learn. For example, after a football match, Heungmin-Son was interviewed. When I watched it, he looks like fantastic and speaks in English very well.
At my previous job, some people said to me “Did you learn English in UK?”, “Because you are big fan of a football, your English diction is from England?”, “When I look at you speaking in English, you look like Sonny.” When I look at me, I am look like Sonny as well.
Someone will not agree Sonny is a fluent English speaker. He has some mistake in terms of pronunciation, sentences, grammars and so on. But, native speakers mistake grammar and even Korean mistake when we speak in mother tongue. The important thing is that I am able to express my feelings and communicate with people in English rather than perfect English speaking. Let’s find English-language contents on your favorite topics and read it continuously.
