ChatGPT 4.0 has been released. The technology has advanced so much that it can now even provide interpretation. Since it can now handle translation and interpretation, as someone in the translation industry, I feel a mix of anxiety and hope that the market will actually grow even further.
While AI translation technology is booming, there is still a high demand for human translators. The need is not insignificant.
Many individuals have translation needs. AI translation tools are addressing these needs, and various media outlets claim that translators are no longer necessary. Such news only adds to the instability within the translation industry. It makes it seem like the profession is about to disappear.
Without a translation company, employees have to translate using translation tools, review it, and then edit it. How much time will that take, and it's highly likely that it will be considered a side project rather than core business. If marketers or planners are assigned translation tasks, I doubt whether they will see this work as contributing to their job level or professional expertise.
Translation is a need and a problem within a client's organization. We must solve this need and problem, and we can solve it for them.
